Year 1M Miss McDougall

Hello! My name is Miss McDougall. This is my third year of teaching and I am thoroughly excited to be teaching in St Michael’s this year and in Year 1! Year 1 is a very busy and exciting year as the children make the transition from Foundation stage and into Key Stage 1.

I want to ensure that all children develop a love of learning and continue to find and pursue their own passions and talents both inside and outside the classroom. As a teacher, I want all children to reach their full potential and continue to build a growth mind-set, where anything is possible!

I am lucky enough to be able to deliver a fun and engaging curriculum through “Super Learning” in the classroom. This provides lots of opportunities for development in different areas. A main focus in Year 1 is reading, so please ensure that you read with your child every night in order that they can engage with the text and read with fluency.

Thank you for visiting our class page. I will keep you posted with all the wonderful things that we do in our classroom. I hope it gives you a little glimpse of the exciting things that we are doing in school and I hope you find it a valuable resource.

If you have any worries, questions or concerns please do not hesitate to pop in to school at any point throughout the year.

This term we have been learning all about Pentecost. Pentecost is when Jesus gave the disciples the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is a very important time in the liturgical year. It is known as the birthday of the Church because it is when the disciples started to spread the Good News, all over the world. Today we shared all of our own Good News with our class.

Today we had Collective Worship and we prayed for all of our friends and the strength to be able to forgive those people who have upset us.

This week we went to Tatton Hall with all of Year 1 and Year 2! We met lots of different characters who told us the story of Cinderella. Then we had a tour of the palace. We saw rooms such as the kitchen, the cellar, the library and the dining rooms.  After lunch we went outside and explored the gardens and the forest. We had such a fantastic day!

Year 1 Stations of the Cross

On our last day of Spring Term, we had our Easter Bonnet Parade. It was such a lovely end to the term and we had so much fun showing them off!

We’ve had such a lovely morning for Fun Day. We have had lots of different activities and we found lots of different living things at the Petting Aquarium!

We absolutely loved World Book! Thank you to all the parents who popped in to read with us!

In our Maths lesson we have been looking at ways in which we could count all of our shoes! We came up with lots of ideas. Finally we decided the most efficient way was to count in twos!

This term we have started Gymnastics. We have been learning about how to warm up. We are also developing lots of different stretches and balances. We look forward to it every week!

Every week, Year 6 come to listen to us read. We each have a “Reading Buddy’. We love reading!

To start our Christmas festivities we had a little visit from a cheeky elf. This elf met our class elf Jimmy and we also got some reindeer food to take home with us!

There are lots of very excited children (and adults) in our class!

Our class walked to Ditton Library with Miss Owen’s class and we had a lovely morning reading Christmas books. Then we went on a Christmas Hunt in pairs and explored different areas of the Library. After that, we all received a Christmas activity booklet with lots of different pictures and puzzles. Thank You to everyone at Ditton Library!

Our favourite book overall was Rudy’s Windy Christmas!

Our Nativity

We are so excited to perform our nativity… We have been working so hard at singing our songs, learning some dance moves and remembering our words! We are taking you all on a journey around the World! Looking how different countries celebrate and also remembering the true meaning of Christmas!
