Hello, my name is Miss Owens and I am delighted to be teaching Reception this year. This is my sixth year teaching in St Michael’s and I am lucky to be able to spend it in Reception again. During their time in Reception, the children will develop many crucial learning skills that will support them through their learning journey in St Michael’s.
Our Foundation unit is a warm, safe and stimulating environment where your child is given the opportunity to reach their full potential. Throughout the day the children will access carpet time, adult direct Phonics and Number sessions and opportunity to learn through play. Each week, children will also be read with on a 1:1 basis to ensure they are supported to develop secure early reading strategies. Reading books and diaries will also be sent home to allow you to further support your child at home.
In St Michael’s we strive to develop the whole child; we dedicate time to developing their social and emotional skills in addition to ensuring academic progress. Our classroom environment provides children the opportunity to develop their creative skills, imagination and understanding of the world around them.
We are extremely fortunate to have Mrs Ainsworth working with us this year, she is a qualified Forest School Lead and will deliver Forest School sessions for us. During this time, the children will learn to risk manage, work collaboratively and develop some tool skills.
All the staff within our Foundation unit work together to ensure the needs of all our children are met. Their learning is observed, enhanced and supported by all adults whilst the children explore and play indoors and outdoors.
I look forward to working with you this year to support your child with their learning journey. If you have any queries or concerns please feel free to speak to any member of the Foundation team at any time.
