  • Swimming Pool

    Wed 13 Sep 2023 P Loughran

We are delighted to have the swimming pool back at school. This is a wonderful resource that gives every child in school the opportunity to swim on a regular basis over a 2 week period. As swimming is part of the national curriculum this is an opportunity for the children to improve their skills and hopefully become confident swimmers.

  • Swimming Pool

We are excited to have a temporary swimming pool in our playground for the next two weeks. The pool is covered and heated to a lovely temperature of 30 degrees ready for the children to start their swimming lessons.

During the next two weeks every year group from Reception to Year 6 will have the opportunity to learn how to swim with fully qualified swimming instructors.

The children are really excited that St Michael's has its own pool and cannot wait to get started with their swimming lessons.

  • World Book Day

    Thu 02 Mar 2023 P Loughran

World Book Day was a great success this year with our theme

'When I grow Up' The children all came to school dressed as what they aspire to be in the future.

It was lovely to see so many doctors, scientists, vets as well as many footballers of the future.

We also asked our parents to send in an inspirational quote for their child. We were bowled over by the responses which were touching, motivational and very heartfelt.

The whole day was a great success which both the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed.

  • Mary's Meals

    Mon 27 Feb 2023 P Loughran

Today we welcomed 'Mary's Meals 'into school who spoke to the children in our whole school assembly.

Mary’s Meals serves nutritious school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest countries. The promise of a good meal attracts these hungry children into the classroom, giving them the energy to learn and hope for a better future.

Currently the charity feeds more than 2.4 million children every school day – and they are aiming to expand even further to help more children and eradicate hunger.

As St Michael's chosen charity staff and children will be taking part in a sponsored '1000 mile challenge' in the month of March to raise money for this amazing charity.

  • Therapy Dogs

    Thu 26 Jan 2023 P Loughran

During this term we are lucky to have Therapy Dogs, Honey and Otis in school on Thursday afternoons. This project is aimed at helping children with their mental health and wellbeing and is proving to be a great success.

It can help children improve their self-esteem, confidence, communication skills, social skills, emotional regulation, levels of empathy and improve mental health.

Animal assisted therapy is particularly helpful for children as one to one therapy sessions can often seem intimidating.

Incorporating animals into sessions changes the atmosphere, helping children relax, creating a stronger desire to attend and increasing the level of trust with the therapist.

The children have the opportunity to chat to the fully qualified therapist whilst interacting with these very special dogs who have a very calming affect on the children.  Honey and Otis will also sit with the children during reading sessions which is proving really popular with the children whilst also developing their reading skills.
