Year 6H - Mrs Hillier

Hello and welcome to 6H’s class page

I’m Mrs Hillier, your child’s teacher this academic year. This is my 9th year teaching at our wonderful school and I can’t wait to get started. I’m looking forward to working with your children after having so much time away from usual classroom life in 2020. It has been lovely in our first few days to see so many smiling, happy faces. We have really missed you year 6!

The children are itching to get into maths and English already and Mrs Ingram and I can’t wait to plan lots of engaging and exciting lessons ready for a year to remember. Mrs Bebbington will also be a part of our year 6 team supporting us with our learning this year. Miss Davies will teach our class on a Thursday. We want to make year 6 memorable for the children with it being their final year at St. Michael’s before moving on to pastures new at secondary school.

Year 6 is fun, stimulating and challenging. The children will have many new experiences this year and study lots of exciting topics. The children will build their resilience, independence and determination ready to sit their SATs in May and we will ensure that they are secondary school ready in all areas of learning: educationally, mentally, socially and emotionally.

We will work together as a team - pupils, staff and parents - to ensure our children reach their full potential. Please ensure that you always share any worries, concerns or important celebratory events with me so that we can do the best that we possibly can to support, guide and celebrate our amazing young people. I will be in touch regularly via email and I am always available by email, telephone or a school appointment to answer any of your questions and listen to your concerns. Stef and Helen are always here to help too.

What have we been learning since we started our Year 6 journey?

We have been practising our passing and dribbling skills in football during our PE lessons.
In science we have been learning about the circulatory system and our heart. Here are some photographs of us making blood to help us understand each component.
We have had lots of reading and writing opportunities linked to our book, 'Star of Fear, Star of Hope'. We love that our English is linked to WW2 in history.
In history we have been studying how St. Michael's has changed over time: from when education first started to the present day.
