Year 1 Mr Borelan

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to a new and exciting school year in Year 1. I am thrilled to be teaching Year 1 this year which is a new and exciting challenge for both myself and the children. I’m looking forward to a year filled with learning, growth, and memorable experiences.

Year 1 is a big year of growth, where children begin to build on the strong foundations they developed in Reception. We’ll be focusing on developing confidence in reading, writing, and number skills, as well as fostering curiosity through topics in science, history, geography, and the arts. Most importantly, we’ll be helping your child grow socially and emotionally—learning how to be kind, resilient, and respectful members of our class community. Our classroom will be a warm and supportive space where your child can feel safe, valued, and excited to learn each day.

The children have been amazing during our first full week back and are beginning to get used to the routines and expectations in Year 1. Today we have given out the children’s reading diaries with new books related to their colour group in phonics. With this, the children are expected to read 5-10 minutes each evening with an adult and bring their books to school each day. On Thursdays, we will collect their books, and each child can choose a bedtime book to bring home, and they will then receive a new reading book on Fridays.

Thank you for your support and I’m looking forward to a fantastic year. If you need to contact me, please don’t hesitate to call the school office or email.

Kind regards,

Mr. Borelan
