Hello and welcome to Year 2!  I’m Miss Abbott and I feel very lucky to be teaching this fantastic group of children this year. Having taught Year 2 last year, I know just how special this stage of the children’s school journey can be, and I’m really looking forward to all the learning, laughter and achievements that the year ahead will bring.

I work closely alongside Mrs Hillier, and together we are committed to making Year 2 a happy, supportive and exciting place for every child. We share a passion for helping the children to thrive and will work together to ensure they feel confident, encouraged and ready to embrace all the opportunities that Year 2 has to offer.

For me, one of the best things about teaching Year 2 is watching the children grow in confidence and begin to recognise just how capable they are. Their curiosity, imagination and enthusiasm make every day different, and I love creating opportunities for them to explore, ask questions, challenge themselves and discover new things. My classroom is a place where children are encouraged to have a go, learn from mistakes and feel proud of their progress.

Above all, I want every child to feel happy, safe and valued when they come into school each day. I am committed to creating a positive and nurturing environment where children feel supported to be themselves and are inspired to achieve their very best. Throughout the year, we will enjoy lots of exciting and meaningful learning experiences, while continuing to build the independence and confidence that will help prepare the children for the next steps in their school journey.

Reading

Reading regularly at home is an important part of your child’s learning and development, and just a few minutes each day can make a real difference. We encourage children to read their school phonics books every day and to re-read these books within the week. Re-reading helps to build confidence, develop fluency and increase reading speed, allowing children to become more accurate and expressive readers. School reading books will be changed each Friday, giving the children the opportunity to bring home a new book for the following week. Please ensure that reading books are brought into school each day, as they will be checked daily and we will read with your child at every opportunity we can. Your support and encouragement at home will help your child develop a positive attitude towards reading and, most importantly, a love of books.

PE

Our PE days for Autumn 1 are Thursday and Friday. Please can your child come to school each Thursday and Friday in their full school PE kit.

Homework

Homework will be given out each Friday and is to be returned to school the following Thursday.

Water Bottles

Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle to school each day. Having access to water throughout the day helps children to stay hydrated and ready to learn.
