Year 2 Mrs Hillier
Welcome to Year 2!
Hello and welcome to Year 2! I’m Mrs Hillier, and I’m delighted to be teaching this wonderful class of children this year. Most of my career has been spent teaching in Key Stage 2, but I’m pleased to be teaching Year 2 again this year after having the pleasure of teaching this year group last year. I know what a special and exciting year it can be, and I’m looking forward to sharing another year full of learning, fun, new experiences and memorable moments.
We’re fortunate to be working alongside Miss Abbott, and together we aim to create an environment where every child feels happy, secure and excited to learn. We are passionate about supporting each child as an individual and helping them to develop both academically and personally. Our goal is for the children to feel confident in themselves, take pride in their achievements and approach each day with enthusiasm.
One of the things I particularly enjoy about teaching Year 2 is seeing the children develop their independence and confidence. It is wonderful to watch them become more curious, ask thoughtful questions and discover what they are capable of achieving. I want our classroom to be a place where children feel comfortable trying new things, making mistakes and learning from them, while celebrating the progress they make along the way.
Throughout the year, we will provide plenty of opportunities for the children to explore, investigate and develop a love of learning. We will enjoy a wide range of engaging experiences, while also encouraging the children to become increasingly independent and resilient as they prepare for the next stage of their school journey in Key Stage 2.
Most importantly, I want every child to come into school each day feeling happy, safe, supported and valued. Building positive relationships is at the heart of everything we do, and we will work hard to create an environment where every child feels that they belong and can be the very best version of themselves.
We also value the important partnership we have with families. Your support and communication play a huge part in helping your child have a successful and enjoyable year. If you ever have a question, concern or something you would like to share, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
We are very excited about the year ahead and can’t wait to see the children learn, grow and flourish. Here’s to a fantastic Year 2 filled with curiosity, confidence, laughter and lots of wonderful achievements!
Reading
Reading regularly at home is an important part of your child’s learning and development, and just a few minutes each day can make a real difference. We encourage children to read their school phonics books every day and to re-read these books within the week. Re-reading helps to build confidence, develop fluency and increase reading speed, allowing children to become more accurate and expressive readers. School reading books will be changed each Friday, giving the children the opportunity to bring home a new book for the following week. Please ensure that reading books are brought into school each day, as they will be checked daily and we will read with your child at every opportunity we can. Your support and encouragement at home will help your child develop a positive attitude towards reading and, most importantly, a love of books.
PE
Our PE days for Autumn 1 are Thursday and Friday. Please can your child come to school each Thursday and Friday in their full school PE kit.
Homework
Homework will be given out each Friday and is to be returned to school the following Thursday.
Water Bottles
Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle to school each day. Having access to water throughout the day helps children to stay hydrated and ready to learn.
