Dear Parents / Carers

As we begin a new term I wanted to write on behalf of the Governing Body to thank you for your continued support. We appreciate that the key to success is a healthy, constructive partnership between home and school and we are fully committed to making sure that this partnership is built upon over the coming months and years. At the end of last term we asked for your opinion on various aspects of the school through a parent/carer questionnaire and we are delighted with the feedback. A large percentage of families responded to the questionnaire and a brief overview is listed below:

100% of parents agree that their child feels safe in school.

100% of parents agree their child is making good progress in school.

100% of parents agree that school meets their child's particular needs.

100% of parents agree that school ensures their child is well looked after.

100% of parents agree that their child is taught well at this school.

100% of parents agree school helps their child to develop skills in communication,

reading, writing and mathematics.

100% of parents agree there is a good standard of behaviour at this school.

100% of parents agree that school deals with any cases of bullying effectively.

100% of parents agree that school helps me support my child's learning.

100% of parents agree that school responds well to their concerns.

100% of parents agree that school keeps them well informed.

100% of parents would recommend St Michael’s to another parent.

96% of parents agree their child's lessons are not disrupted by bad behaviour

We have introduced a new code of conduct for all staff, pupils and parents. As a consequence we will be asking for your full support in taking action against disruptive behaviour at any time in school.

We were delighted to see the comments on the forms including the following:

I think you are doing an excellent job with engaging parents. The events available for us to attend have been brilliant. I also really like your twitter feed for updates and news’ ‘

‘As a school you always encourage 100% attendance and punctuality and I feel it is such an important matter as it sets a great foundation for learning and opportunity for children to progress. Also really happy about the ‘Daily Mile’, extra physical activity within the school day is a major plus.’

‘ The school is very good at recognising and praising good/hard work and promoting reading’ ‘

‘‘The school do a fabulous job, can’t sing your praises highly enough. Keep up the great work’

We appreciate your suggestions and very much welcome your opinions. As a school we have already begun to action some of the suggestions made:

School Action/Response

As working parents it would help if a little more notice could be given so time off work could be planned in for assemblies and trophy winner.

We will try to send diary dates out every term with all major events and class assemblies listed. Unfortunately ‘Trophy Winner’ can only be announced on Friday of the previous week.

Please follow us on twitter on: @stmichaelscps and access our new website to keep informed of news and events.

Assemblies and Coffee Mornings are always enjoyable. Similar events later in the day would be great for those working mornings or shifts.

We will endeavour to plan events at various times of the day

‘More Parents invited onto trips/ classroom to see how you teach our children and how we can implement it at home.’

We are planning to run Parent Courses through this year to demonstrate the strategies used to teach reading and maths in school.

All comments you made on the sheets have been reviewed by the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team and we really appreciate the feedback we received. The Senior Leadership Team will look into all of the comments made with respect to behaviour and support, parents attending trips and establishing a PTA over future meetings and will take actions accordingly. As a school we have already begun to action some of the points raised and will continue to feed these into the School Development Plan. We are always striving to improve and look forward to working in partnership with you in the future.

Yours sincerely

The Governing Body
